Description
Description
Tarsal supports are available for temporary support of mild strains, to provide long term support of chronic conditions, or to provide support post-surgery to improve outcomes and avoid re-injury.
Three grades of support are offered here. Grades 1 and 2 are flexible, while for more extreme requirements such as post-op and conservative treatment for medium to severe sprains and arthrosis (OA), a rigid Grade 3 is offered. This provides rigid lateral and medial support and prevents tarsal joint movement.
Orders are dispatched within 24 hours.
Scandi Orthopedic also offer a Grade 4 support custom-made from a cast of the individual patient. The Grade 4 can be adjusted and adapted to the desired level of movement with a stop band and/or motion limiter for controlled rehabilitation or as an extra insurance after delicate surgery. It is also possible to adapt the Grade 4 orthosis for use 24 hours a day post-operatively. The Grade 4 can be viewed and ordered on the Scandi Orthopedic website here.

Tarsal Orthosis Grade 2 is designed to enable the level of support, stability or immobilisation to be adapted to the patient. It is suitable for post-op use, minor sprains and similar. Grade 2.5 NEW
Grade 2.5 NEW
The Grade 2.5 Tarsal orthosis is a semi-rigid support employing two shapeable thermoplastic panels to aid stabilisation. These can be removed as the patient improves to allow for more movement. Provides lateral and medial support and prevents hyperextension. Uses include:
- stabilising the tarsal joint after injury and post operatively.
- postoperative and conservative treatment for minor sprains and medium arthrosis.
- postoperative, minor sprains and similar.
Grade 3 and Grade 3+
Grade 3 and Grade 3+
The Grade 3 Tarsal Orthosis stabilises the tarsal joint with a customisable thermoplastic sheet. This provides rigid lateral and medial support, preventing tarsal joint movement. All components of the support are highly customisable. The Grade 3 support is appropriate for post-operative and conservative treatment for medium to severe strains and medium arthrosis. Also included is a waterproof, breathable cover made in ScandiTex® . The Grade 3 orthosis can be downgraded to a Grade 2 through the removal of the thermoplastic layer as healing and rehabilitation progress.
The Grade 3+ is replacing the old-style grade 3 and has a knitted thermoplastic insert. It is basically the same item, but is easier to mould to shape. The old style can still be purchased, but stocks are limited. The Grade 3+ are side neutral, but if you select the old style Grade 3 you need to specify the side required.
Please be aware that the old style orthosis is being phased out and once we are out of stock, you will need to select the new style by specifying neutral.

Measurement for correct size
Measurement for correct size

Available for left and right tarsal. Take measurements in centimetres with the animal standing. Please refer to the diagram to the above. We suggest writing down the measurements then referring to the table to identify the correct size. Each measurement should fall within the range indicated. The support is highly customisable hence the size can be fine tuned to achieve a good fit.
- Measure the circumference of the tarsal
- Measure the length from stifle to tarsal, then reduce by 30%.
- Measure the length from tarsal to metatarsal joint.
