Scandi Orthopedic orthoses deliver effective complementary treatment options when surgery is not possible, or as an extra insurance for a successful post-operative rehabilitation. Four grades of support are provided across all their orthoses as summarised in the diagram.

Three grades of carpal orthosis are stocked in the UK along with the intermediate Grade 2.5. They combine neoprene and Velcro to provide highly customisable supports which may be hand washed at 30°C. Grade 4 orthoses should be sourced from Scandi Orthopedic. Please contact us if you need assistance with this. View the UK catalogue here

All orthosis may be hand washed using mild detergent at 30oC. The thermoplastic insert used in Grades 2.5 and 3 should be washed in cold water only.

Diagram indicating how to measure a dog's leg for a carpal joint support
Size Measurements

Take measurements in centimetres with the animal standing. Please refer to the diagram to the above for the correct position of the measurements. We suggest writing down the measurements, then refer to the table for the grade of support you require to identify the correct size.
1. Measure the circumference of the carpal joint
2. Measure the distance from the elbow to the top of the paw

Each measurement should fall within the indicated range. The supports are highly customisable, hence the size can be fine tuned to achieve a good fit.

Size Measurement 1 (up to) cm Measurement 2
Extra Small 10 6.5 - 11
Small 12.5 9 - 16
Medium 15.5 10.5 - 20
Large 19.5 13 - 25
Extra Large 22.5 15 - 30
Grade 1 Carpal orthosis

A light flexible support for minor sprains or post-operatively to reduce inflammation and pain. Choose left or right leg when purchasing.

  • Prevents re-injury
  • Reinforces joint position sensing (Proprioception)
  • Reduces carpal joint deviations and hyper-extension
Grade 2 Carpal orthosis

Stabilises the carpal joint after trauma and post-operatively. Adaptable to various types of injuries. The degree of stabilisation and the direction you want to stabilise the joint is adjustable with the Velcro stabilising straps. Provides lateral and medial support and prevents carpal joint deviation and hyper-extension.

Choose left or right let when purchasing

  • Provides medium support and pain reduction of the injured area while allowing some movement.
  • For use after trauma and post-operatively.
  • Use as a step down in support following a splint or cast.
  • Allows adjustable degree of stabilisation.
Grade 2.5 Carpal Orthosis

Uses semi-rigid support to stabilise the carpal joint after trauma and post-operatively. May be used for post-operative and conservative treatment for minor sprains and medium arthrosis. Provides lateral and medial support and prevents hyper-extension. Uses shapeable thermo-plastic stabilisers that can be removed to allow for more movement downgrading the level of support.

Note, if selecting old style, you will need to specify whether you need a left or right. For the new style, select neutral

Please be aware that the old style orthosis is being phased out and once we are out of stock, you will need to select the new style by specifying neutral.

  • For medium tendon injuries and medium arthrosis
  • Protects against re-injury
  • Promotes joint position sensing (Proprioception)
  • Reduces carpal joint deviations and hyper-extension
Grade 3  and Grade 3+Carpal Orthosis

Stabilises the carpal joint with rigid support. Post-operative and conservative treatment for medium to severe sprains and medium arthrosis. Provides rigid lateral and medial support and prevents carpal joint movement.

The orthosis uses a shapeable thermoplastic fabric to turn it into an immobilising cast after heating, with the benefit of easy removal for skin inspection and for early rehabilitation. Easy to shape, quick to apply and non-toxic, it can be removed to allow for more movement (this turns it into a Grade 2). The orthosis comes with a waterproof, breathable cover made with Scandi-Tex.

The Grade 3+ is replacing the old-style grade 3 and has a knitted thermoplastic insert. It is basically the same item, but is easier to mould to shape. The old style can still be purchased, but stocks are limited.

Please be aware that the old style orthosis is being phased out and once we are out of stock, you will need to select the new style Grade 3+

A rigid orthosis that immobilises the carpal joint and paw is also available as a Grade 3 option here.

    • Immobilises the carpal joint
    • Reduces carpal joint deviations and hyper-extension
    • Postoperative and conservative treatment
    • Medium to severe sprains and arthrosis
